![]() Nashville, Tennessee Gene “Pappy” Merritts who plays fiddle with Brazilbilly at Roberts Western World. Yesterday, I was looking at Jarrett Gorin's Ghost Bird #2, which reminded me that all pictures don't have to be sharp to be a nice photograph. With that in mind, I had an idea for Pappy's picture to save it from deletion. Fiddle players are hard to capture, I have a better one of him on my back page but I like this gritty, dark composition.. Pappy seemed to really enjoy playing the fiddle, having spent an entire life in Nashville music- 27 years with a show at the old Opryland theme park, a few years with the Ernest Tubb theatre, and now with the Brazibilly that is the headline band at Roberts. Thinking that it won't appeal to a wide audience, I'd really like to know what you feel about it. Update: I think it's bad form to change a picture after receiving updates, but I came home and really had a problem with the picture after not seeing it all day. I think the blur on the face could have been sharpened up a bit, but the deep shadow under the glasses really bothered me. I think it's an optical problem caused by the spotlight shining through his glasses. I don't tend to clone things much on my pictures, mainly dust and specks, but on this one I did a combo of cloning and burning/dodging to eliminate the very dark line. To keep things in perspective, the original that Mark P. commented on can be found HERE, but I'm not sure which version Russ viewed. Thanks for all comments. Comment (4) | Permalink |
