Jackson's Tomb

Nashville, Tennessee

Now's a good time to mention a couple of other photoblogs that chronicle some folks who are not as fortunate as many of us during this holiday season. The need of other parts of the country has stressed the usual network of support for many. It's probably that way for your area too.

Susan at Pitcherlady continues with a fine series on the homeless of Nashville. She present a good story of a fellow named Steve, who is both homeless and ill- not a good combination to have in the U.S. health care system.

Today, she linked to a written blog called The Homeless Guy that I found to be great reading. Suicide and homelessness are both something that I couldn't understand and empathize with when young, but now quite understand how someone could fall into those black holes. One of his quotes that hit home is:

'Homelessness is like suicide. Both are attempts at escaping difficult situations - situations for which there seems no other way out.'

Greg at Pixelvision continues his photo-essay on those who have been affected by the hurricanes. He spent some time at Pass Christian, Mississippi and brings us a great number of photographs that point out the catastrophe. It's not going to be a nice Christmas for some.

There's strong opposing viewpoints on both sides ('you choose to live where you live...' and all of that) but these two photoessay-style blogs should give us all something to think about this holiday.season.
