 near Beattyville, Kentucky Anymore, I spend a lot of time thinking about the expectations that teenagers have and how things actually end up turning out. Not sure how productive that is, but in my case this picture is the result. Prior to becoming mobile with a drivers license, my aspiration was to own a 1969 Camaro Z28. I didn't stop with that, though, because I also aspired to own an automobile with big fins. Yep, a Z28 for Saturday night and Fins to drive on Sunday evening. What a strange combination. During these pre-driving days, I'd ride the bus home with a couple of buddies from the neighborhood. We were the last stop and after the bus parked in a vacant lot, we'd walk through a small junkyard. Right next to our trail was an old Desoto. What a beauty she was, just sitting there and rusting away. That's the car I wanted sitting next to the Z28. Driving down Rt. 52 on my drive-about last weekend, this car reminded me of those days. I just had to have a picture. Not sure of the make/model of the car in my picture, but here's a picture of a real Desoto like the one in my boyhood junkyard: 1959 DeSoto Firedome.
