![]() Berea College Berea, Kentucky This photograph was taken during our recent drive-about through Kentucky. Berea College is a well respected liberal arts institution and scores at the top of the list for being unique. The teacher to student ratio is 10:1 and 80% of Berea's students come from the Appalachian region What really stands out, though, is the tuition rates. Nothing. Everyone gets a 4 year scholarship. There's a hitch, though, not everyone will qualify. You have to meet the academic standards plus there's an economic cap on the family income. This ensures that the most qualified and most needy students are given a one-up on the start of their life. If you find yourself driving on Interstate 75 through Kentucky, the town is worth an overnight stop. Undoubtedly, it's the capitol of Kentucky for fine arts and crafts. There's the Kentucky Artisan Center and scores of private shops to wander through. Quite a nice place to visit. About the picture: The effect is a mix of equipment and post-processing. I put my digital-only 16mm zoom on my film camera, then guessed at the shutter speed while keeping in mind that the aperture would be wide open at F4. The digital only lens will vignette the film plane to give the circular effect, then in post-processing I sharpened the center area of the picture, inverted the selection, then applied a slight selective-blur with Focal Blade (my sharpening tool). Thanks for visiting. I want to say how grateful I am to those who have left comments recently. They mean quite a lot to me, giving some inspiration to move past the coffee pot and take the camera along. Comment (11) | Permalink |
