Huntington, West Virginia

I'm a fan of reading journals, diaries, books of personal letters, and memoirs. My latest book is 'A Moveable Feast' by Ernest Hemingway and is his memoir of Paris in the 1920s. In the current chapter, Hemingway talks about the time that he lost all of his stories. The time was early in his career and he was struggling, often going hungry but he wasn't worrying because he knew his stories were good and it would just take some time to sell them. His wife, Hadley, had an idea to pack up all the stories and surprise him by bringing them along on a holiday to the mountains so he could work . While in a train station, the whole suitcase was lifted and never to be seen again. She had packed the originals, the typescripts and the carbons all into the one bag. He writes, 'She had cried and cried and could not tell me. I told her that no matter what the dreadful thing was that had happened nothing could be that bad, and whatever it was, it was all right and not to worry. We would work it out. Then, finally, she told me. I was sure she could not have brought the carbons too and I hired someone to cover for me on my newspaper job. I was making good money then at journalism, and took the train for Paris. It was true all right....'

I think I'll go and back up my computer.
