Goodness Gracious Snakes Alive

Poage Landing Days
Ashland, Kentucky

Even though I had to miss all the really interesting events of the festival, I did manage to visit and take a few photographs of some interesting scenes. This vendor is probably the most unusual one that I've ever seen at this festival which is primarily known for the arts and crafts.

An interesting part of the photograph is the old building in the background. Commonly referred to as the Old Sears Building, it is actually the Fields Building (some say the Fields Furniture Buildings and others say the Millard F. Field Building). Way before my time, it apparently was the home of a furniture business before eventually becoming the Ashland Sears & Roebuck for over 40 years. When I was small, Sears would set up an expanded toy display at Christmas and it was a special place to go. When I was older, I bought my first electric drill there and even though it seems like yesterday, it was maybe 3 decades ago. Tools were located in the basement and the salesman was Tommy Pace, which is an oddity to remember since I have trouble sometimes even remembering the names of relatives. Once slated for renovation into condominiums, the building has now been condemned and the city may have to demolish it.
