![]() Pendleton Art Center Ashland, Kentucky After dinner tonight, we made a quick stop to pick up some supplies at the Pendleton. Someone had set up a sitting area in the back and I thought this might make a nice available light still life photograph. The subject appears to be a statue but it is more like a doll that is about a foot tall and sitting on a shelf of an end table and illuminated by regular florescent light fixtures. I'm certain that it is not a piece of art that is for sale. The camera has been resurrected from the dead via some Google searches about dead batteries. The D300 appears to have had DBS (ha, ha! fancy medical term for dead battery syndrome) and I used an eraser on the middle contact of the battery. The battery has 3 contacts and evidently the middle one runs only the meter that determines how many shots are left in the charge as well as assessing the battery health. The spring is not as strong against this contact and just a hint of dirt will make the camera think the battery is dead. According to the gurus at the dpreview forums, the best cure is to use something called DeOxit on the battery and lens contacts but I haven't found any yet. I'll probably know in a few days if this has fixed it. The guy at Radio Shak said '..man, I'm so sorry to hear about your camera...' to which I replied that it wasn't like a heart pacemaker was acting up or something. Comment (1) | Permalink |
