Jim's Steak & Spaghetti at Huntington, West Virginia

Maybe every community has a place like this, but I doubt it. It’s a downtown diner where the waitresses stay for over 30 years. Where you and your teenage son sit down and get served by the same waitress that served you and your wife, back when she was only your girlfriend. Where the menu and the food rarely changes. Everything is spotless, white, chrome, and shiny. Jim's is somewhat of a treasure for the community.

The walls are lined with pictures of Jim and the long list of celebrities that have stopped by during the years. The most famous person, John F. Kennedy, has a booth named for him. Kennedy made a stop during his campaign in the early 60's and his booth has carried his name since I've been going there.

If you like sweet cole slaw, it's the best you'll ever find. I'm partial to the fish sandwich, mainly because the tarter sauce is the very best around. The burgers are served on grilled bread, just like grilled cheese. And the spaghetti sauce is a recipe that's been used for 50 years.

No place else like it in the world.

About the picture: We hadn't planned to stop at Jim's, so the big camera was left at home. To make matter's worse, I ended up cropping the shot severely to get the composition that I wanted. Now, while sitting at home, I have the urge to rearrange the catsup bottle, remove the little white sign, and readjust the gold one. So, I'm not completely pleased and will return. I believe there's a great picture to be taken here.
