Not long ago, I was privileged to participate in a Veterans Day ceremony at the local high school. In the above photo, teacher John Lynd reads a letter from the family of Larry Morris, one of three Marines to lower the flag at the U.S. Cuban embassy in 1961 and who returned recently to help raise it again. My real reason for being there was to witness my father graduating from the class of 1952, having received his diploma through a state program honoring Veterans whose lives were interrupted by the events of the 1950s. In my father's ceremony, we stood behind the podium and I left my camera behind, a mistake you should never make.
