(photo #1 of 2 for today)
Ulysses, New York
While still in the fingerlakes region of NY, this photo was shot from the rim overlook of Taughannock Falls State Park. Taughannock Falls is a spectacular sight and I think the very best photographs would require several hours of hiking to find unique viewpoints. According to nyfalls.com, this waterfall is over 200 feet tall and measures 33 feet higher than Niagara Falls, making it the highest free falling waterfall in the northeastern United States. According to nyfalls.com, the gorge is continually changing as chunks of rock fall from the walls, making swimming in the plunge pool a death defying activity.
This image was made with my pocket camera. The gorge was deep in the shadows but the overlook took the brunt of full midday sun, making lens flare a gigantic issue for the dSLR.
